Let's build people power!
At Dogwood, we believe it's possible to build a province where communities are resilient and empowered in the face of climate change, and our connection to each other and the natural world makes B.C. an inspiring example of climate action, decolonization, and democratic decision-making.
Our Theory of Change
IF we organize people in our communities to challenge concentrated power and transform our democracy, THEN we will contribute to decolonizing and decarbonizing B.C. — BECAUSE organized people working together have the power to change what is possible.
Our Organizing Model
Dogwood organizes in regional teams across the province. By coming together under a common cause, we can get more done to improve our democracy and defend our environment than going at it alone. Not only that, teams can meet regularly, support each other and have fun.
Our organizing model supports folks with lot of time to give, as well as those who can only volunteer occasionally. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we offer hybrid volunteer opportunities (remote/virtual and in-person).
Organizing activities include:
- Face-to-face conversations about B.C.’s biggest climate problem, fracked gas
- Organizing events to educate and engage the community or pressure decision makers
- Experimenting with methods to build relationships and engage with folks outside in the climate movement
- Supporting intersecting fights and acting in solidarity with Indigenous people and others most affected by climate change.
- Supporting community-based responses in the event of a climate related disaster
